Helmer tells us that he doesn't want Nils Kroggstad at his bank because he had a large moral breakdown. Not only did Kroggstad commit forgery but he "got himself out by sharp practices, and that's the real cause of his moral breakdown" (Ibsen 20). Helmer doesn't believe anyone who does such things is fit to be a parent, especially a mother.
Nora has also commited forgery. She hides this from her husband because she is scared that he will hate her for it, especaillywith his comment about Nils Kroggstad. Nora, however, doesn't feel very guilty about her crime. She only forged her father's signature in order to save her husband. Her father was close to death and she didn't with for him to have to worry about her paying off the borrowed money.
Nils Kroggstad uses Nora's immoral deed againist her. He found out that Nora had forged her father's signature and threatens her. This causes a series of events that finally leads to Nora leaving Helmer. Forgery played a vital role in Ibsen's A Doll House.
